Weaver Steps Down From Court

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth WEAVER stepped down Thursday at 11 a.m. by the request of Gov. Jennifer GRANHOLM as part of an arrangement that northern Michigan Appellate Judge Alton "Tom" DAVIS would be her replacement.

Schuette/Johnson Prevail In Top GOP Races ======================================
(EAST LANSING) -- Senate Majority Leader Mike BISHOP (R-Rochester) may have narrowly won Friday night's Tea Party Caucus straw poll for the Attorney General nomination, but it was former Court of Appeals Judge Bill SCHUETTE who narrowly carried the day at Saturday's Michigan Republican Party convention.

Steudle: A Bigger Problem Looms

With the loss of $475 million in federal road funds looming, if the Legislature doesn't act to find $84 million for roads in a new state budget by Oct. 1, Department of Transportation Director Kirk STEUDLE told MIRS, "a piece that is getting lost" is the bigger funding problem next year.

Snyder's Lead Jumps To 22 Points

In the first General election poll, Republican gubernatorial nominee Rick SNYDER was up by 12 points. In the second survey, it was 19 points. Thursday, he widened his lead to 22 points over Lansing Mayor Virg BERNERO.
